🌿Why We Offer Both Organic and Pesticide-Free Matcha

Midori Matcha Journal

As many of our customers — both here and on Amazon — are returning buyers (thank you!), we wanted to share the story behind one of our most important choices: why we offer both organic and pesticide-free matcha.

Behind this decision lies not just a business model, but a belief in sustainability and community.

At Midori Matcha, we work directly with small family-owned farms in Japan. We value the care, passion, and pride that go into growing tea — from a tiny green sprout in the soil to a finished tin or pouch that brings someone joy at home.

We believe in the beauty of tradition and the quiet innovation that happens within small businesses. They don’t just make products — they create community. Our partner farms in Uji and Shizuoka are deeply connected with their local areas: they share knowledge, teach students, and pass on a love for the craft that runs through generations.

We don’t oppose large suppliers — but we chose a different path. For our partner farms, producing only certified organic tea would be financially unsustainable. Organic certification in Japan is complex and costly, and it would force many small farms to stop producing altogether.

Instead, these farmers grow all their tea organically, without pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. A portion of their harvest goes through the official organic certification process, while the rest — grown in the same fields, with the same care — is sold as pesticide-free.

We follow their lead. At Midori Matcha, we buy both — the certified organic matcha and the pesticide-free matcha — all from the same farms, grown under the same natural methods.

This approach keeps the farms sustainable, protects the soil and environment, and allows us to share exceptional tea with you — tea that’s honest, pure, and rooted in the land where it’s grown.
